Instead of a lunch date with hubby I scored one with my dad.
He drove me to Springvale as he needed to go groceries shopping .

Then we had lunch at one of the little pick your dishes restaurants . They had a counter out the front and you can choose three dishes to have with rice for $10. Which is pretty reasonable. 

We ended up having a Vietnamese crepe/pancake each. I was stuffed by the end. Couldn’t finish mine at all .Dad finished his.

Ran into two of dad’s acquaintances . One greeted him with a Hi there so glad to see you . Haven’t seen you for a long while and I was getting a bit worried . He’s in his 80s and he was like you know at this age when you haven’t heard or seen people for awhile it means they’ve passed on 😂

Anyhow it’s pretty funny . The thing is I never thought of my dad as old. He’s in his mid 70s now. He’s dad to me and that’s it.

We talked about his guests as I wanted to know who they are and how old they are and if they can walk or not. I meant if they can get around independently.

It turned out one couple is his friend and wife and the other two are their siblings and spouses. The last couple is a sibling and a family friend as her husband couldn’t get away.

They are in their 60s and 70s and are all relatively fit. 

That’s one load off my mind. Dad’s point of view is for us to go from when they arrive til 6pm then to go home after that. 

If anyone is too tired he’ll drive in and pick them up first as he wanted them to spend as much time as possible in Melbourne. 

That means I’ll have more time to take them around then. Which is good. Here is hoping I don’t conk out before they do 😂


My steal from Springvale. Chinese donut with red beans inside (bánh tiêu). Steamed rice cakes with mince pork and dried black fungus inside (bánh giò). Belly pork with rind (bì ) and beef cake with dill (chả bò) . Mung bean filled sweet  pastries (bánh cam) .

The rice cakes are for breakfast tomorrow . The beef cake I’m going to slice up to have for dinner tonight with a salad or sliced cucumbers. I’ve got tofu and chives to make soup tonight. 

The belly pork with rind can be used to make rice paper rolls for lunch tomorrow.
