I’m learning heaps. I guess one doesn’t stop learning.

1930 was in the midst of depression. Sidney Myer, a Russian Jewish immigrant, held a Christmas dinner for 11,000 poor people in our Royal Exhibition Building. He even had Santa Claus giving out 1,000 Christmas gifts for the kids.

What a generous soul. His department store still stands today in Bourke St Mall.

In the Kings Domain Gardens, Sidney Myer Music Bowl, an outdoor performance centre was named after him.

From the look of things he came to Australia with little money and worked up from there. A true inspiration.
